Seconds Out – Faces of Boxing
photography by Piek
A photo book about boxers. Different, evocative. Portraits of boxers at their most fragile moment: in the corner with their trainer. Between 2 rounds. Close to the skin, sharp as a razor blade. The beautiful light accentuates the skin, the sweat and sometimes the blood. The trainer still whispers some tips, the boxer bites his fear and pain. The portraits are alternated with action photos.
Photographer Piek (Annemieke Kok) visited hundreds of boxing matches in recent years. This time, the champions do not have a leading role, all boxers have. It is therefore more about photography and the phenomenon of boxing than about the sport. Designed by Richard van der Horst. With a foreword by Erwin Olaf and a text by Jan van Mersbergen. The director of the world’s most famous boxing gym, Bruce Silverglade of Gleason’s Gym, also wrote a few words, especially for this book.
