Photographer Siebe Swart was inspired by the emptiness and space he experienced along the North Sea coasts, of the Wadden Sea and the former Zuiderzee and made an impressive series of panoramic seascape photographs. The series shows us his personal journey of discovery along the Dutch coast during storm, ebb and flow, night and dawn, falling darkness and rising sun.
These panoramas are now bundled in 'Time and tide wait for no man'. Through fold-out pages (the longest being no less than 1.60 metres) we look over the photographer's shoulder as it were; from left to right across the beach and from the surf to the coast in the distance. But we are not looking at 'ordinary' pictures. The images are composed of a whole series of shots, giving the panoramas a power of expression of their own.
The exhibition 'Time & Tide' can be seen in the Museum Panorama Mesdag until 27 February 2022.
