NEW: Nash. Master of puppets
Werner Zwakhalen (1970–2024), better known as Nash, left an indelible mark on the graffiti world. In the early 1980s, he was one of the first in Limburg to engage with graffiti as part of the hip-hop movement. What began as illicit pioneering evolved into a serious art form. His work extended far beyond his hometown of Sittard, appearing on walls from Australia to the United States.
Nash was known for his cartoon-style characters, distinguished by exquisite shading and striking color accents. His figures are exuberant, radiate energy, and are instantly recognizable—bold combinations of cartoon-like vitality and technical precision. Within the graffiti community, he was known as "the technician" due to his exceptional skill.
Nash was a pioneer of Dutch graffiti, spending over forty years developing a style that garnered global recognition. This book features hundreds of photos from personal archives—including many previously unpublished images—complemented by stories and interviews with Nash, his family, crew members, and friends. It offers an overview of his body of work and pays tribute to the man behind it: a talented, generous, and widely respected figure whose influence on graffiti culture and the people around him remains palpable to this day.
