The collection of poems in 'Laklaag' (Varnish) by Moniek Wolters is an ode to the love of life and also to what keeps us from it. In her poems Moniek says a lot using few words. Her writing is honest, direct and disarming. The beauty of simplicity with a regular quip.
We all build layers around ourselves and that is a good thing. With these protective layers we keep ourselves afloat in this world. The journey through those layers is not just universal, but also often lonely. In 'Laklaag', Moniek takes you along on a journey for a bit, hoping that in doing so she can soothe the loneliness along the way and above all, stir up her love of life.
In 2019, Moniek's debut 'Ertussenin' (In between) was published by Uitgeverij Komma. Her fascination for the themes in her poetry collections has everything to do with her own process of change from economist and manager to independent coach and trainer, and now also poet.
