Brita Bakema – Moessorgski op de stroom van de tijd
‘Moessorgski op de stroom van de tijd’ (Moessorgski on the flow of time) is a reflection of artist Brita Bakema’s imaginary journey to meet the Russian composer Moessorgski.
It was her memory of an unfinished collection of illustrations, based on the the world famous piano suite ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ by Moessorgski, urging her to go back in time. Going back in time was the only way to discover what fascinated her as a young girl in this music and lead to making the illustrations. She studied Moessorgski’s personality, in which she observed the social-economic and cultural contradictions, which dominated Russia in his time.
Based on her personal experiences, impressions and facts, Brita describes three cultural historical time frames, shaped by a mutual coherence of word, sound and image. ‘Moessorgski op de stroom van de tijd’ became an ode to art and the meaning of life.
