Every week a column entitled ‘Beeldrijm’ (Image rhyme) is published in Het Parool newspaper. Jedithja de Groot links a special work of art she has seen in an exhibition to a photo from the National Archives Spaarnestad collection.
All image rhymes are an ode. Together, they have come to form a new timeless and infinite story. One that tells about present and past, about art and a photographic treasure chest, about looking, amazement, impermanence, love and beauty. For the column, Jedithja searches the Spaarnestad image bank daily, looking for similarities between two images in composition, shape, colour, and nuances. She keeps encountering her photo: the image she rhymes with an image that she found in a current exhibition.
‘Beeldrijm’ - the book covers more than 6 years of image rhymes and includes artworks by more than 200 artists. Jedithja rhymes include works of art by artists such as Wes Anderson, William Kentridge, Picasso, Erwin Olaf, Marlene Dumas and Kara Walker, shown in exhibition at for instance Huis Marseille, Stedelijk Museum, Rijkmuseum, Museum Voorlinden, Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Van Abbe Museum and the Prado.
