Traffic signs, gear shift knobs, warning tape and cassette tapes, in themselves they are everyday objects and materials. But in Sjimmie Veenhuis’ installations, they are building blocks that are given a whole new meaning. With geometric precision, Sjimmie creates abstract compositions in which the objects and materials transcend themselves and undergo the ultimate transformation. This results in works of art that invite us to re-examine our own material environment with a typical 'Veenhuis' view.
‘Aspect ratio' offers a retrospective of Sjimmie's work and is at the same time a prelude to its continuation. His complete artwork to date is presented in this publication and linked to substantive motivations and meaning.
Sjimmie pasted every single cover of 'Aspect ratio' with warning tape, a material that he often uses in his work.
