NEW: Amsterdam, city of bikes
Half a century of cycling in Amsterdam, beautifully captured by the renowned Amsterdam photographer Eddy Posthuma de Boer. In 2026 the Amsterdam Fietsersbond (Cyclists’ Union) celebrated its 50th anniversary: a unique opportunity to present a book of photos of Amsterdam as a cycling city, together with the photographer’s widow, Henriette Posthuma de Boer.
The bicycle was a subject Eddy Posthuma de Boer loved to capture. We see bicycles parked along canals, in the middle of parks, and leaning against trees and lampposts. They appear as a means of transport, carrying children, luggage, and loved ones. His photographs also show the bicycle as a tool for demonstrating against dangers created by cars and for greater safety on the streets.
‘Amsterdam, city of bikes’ offers a nostalgic impression of Amsterdam as a cycling city in the ‘under own power’ era.
