A partying crowd moves through the streets. Shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand. Laughter and cheering. But also sadness, contemplation, silence. Then and now. Holland stands still, looks back and moves forward. Our country celebrates and commemorates 75 years of freedom.
In '75 jaar vrijheid in beeld' (75 years of freedom in pictures) photographer Sacha de Boer shows us a memory, captured in the present. Looking ahead. Her beautiful black and white photographs occasionally make us doubt whether we are looking at the past or the present. A group of soldiers walks past us as if it were 75 years ago. But then suddenly, on the left of that same photograph, a modern film camera catches our eye and we are right back in the present.
During 25 special projects and events Sacha captured on camera how people all over the country are personally involved and touched or inspired by 75 years of freedom. The book is a reflection of hundreds of small and large projects that the vfonds (National Fund for Peace, Freedom and Veterans Care) made possible during this lustrum. The book reminds us how important peace and freedom are and how valuable our democracy is.
